We discovered our black-hued Chinese Vinegar Jars collection in the ShanXi province of China. In the ShanXi community, which translates as "West of the Mountains," the people used these vintage jars for storing and transporting salt, oil, and water. Each jar offers unique characteristics depending on its use.

The origins of the ginger jar date back to China's Qin Dynasty that spanned 221 to 206 BC. It was not until they were exported to Europe in the 19th century that their use transitioned from storage to decorative. Our vintage Ginger Jars are made from clay and kiln-fired with an aqua-colored glaze. Size and condition of each jar varies.

Inspired by the traditional white confit pots popularized in the southwestern region of France, each pot is turned by hand on the potter’s wheel using 19th century methods. Finished by hand with a white glaze, these confit pots have been upgraded with a modern design. Whether used in the kitchen or throughout the home, these pots are the perfect “cachette” or hiding spot to help keep your space clear and decluttered. The 2 handles, commonly known as ears, located on each side make it easy to move and rearrange throughout your space. Multi-functional in design, the confit pot can also be used as a vase to display your freshly picked stems or beautiful potted plants.

• Hand-crafted from low-fired terracotta.
• Can be used to hold small household items or to display potted plants and fresh bouquets.
• Glazed and finished by hand making each piece one-of-a-kind. The hand of the artisan may be visible in the form of drips and differences in opaqueness of the glaze.
• Care Instructions: Wash by hand. When using as a planter, use a pot liner insert inside the confit pot along with a few rocks at the bottom to help with drainage.
