We discovered our black-hued Chinese Vinegar Jars collection in the ShanXi province of China. In the ShanXi community, which translates as "West of the Mountains," the people used these vintage jars for storing and transporting salt, oil, and water. Each jar offers unique characteristics depending on its use.

The hand-crafted Paper Mache Vessel, Bottle Shaped, is inspired by early vessel design. The long neck sails down into a gently bulbous bottom that provides timeless style. The neutral coloring reflects the pulpous character of its formation - paper mâché. The age-old tradition of using paper mâché for creating tools and accoutrements has a long history that dates back to 200 BC.

Artisan made with simple tools, hand-carved from a single block of mahagony wood. Exquisite as a stand-alone piece and also makes a great side table.
